The chemistry between Natsu and Lucy IV

NaLu shippers often overhype a single smile or edit their way to a post for the sake of pairings with little to no substance in the FT story. Does that mean NaLu lacks credibility or plausability? After all, several of those who claim to support NaLu put crack pairings and impotent relationships in the same pedestal…

That’s not the case. Emotional chemistry is more than a “smile” or good looks. As stated before, this concept is more about the effect or the impact a relationship has on the characters involved. To make it easier to understand, NaLu gives us another example through a meaningful gesture in the “Rainbow Cherry Blossoms” chapter:

To make it short: the hanami festival for viewing of the rare Rainbow Cherry Blossoms was drawing near, and Lucy was excited for it. The whole guild planned to go to the “flower viewing.” But, when the day arrived Lucy got sick and couldn’t go to the festival. The guild still went and everyone had fun…

…well, not everyone:

Natsu, who saw the excitement Lucy had at the prospect of going, and her sorrow at being unable to go, was the most affected by Lucy’s situation. Real chemistry occurs when characters are capable of affecting each other in a way that stands out

It’s worth noticing that none of the cool good-looking guys reacted in such a manner. It was mostly Natsu, and Happy who noticed how Natsu was feeling down because of Lucy’s sadness, who reacted to this. But that’s not all!

In part 2 of this series of analyses, we briefly saw how this aspect of their connection motivates Natsu to take action. Here…

…seeking to provide Lucy with relief and comfort, or in other words, to make her smile, Natsu uproots an entire Rainbow Cherry Blossom Tree to send it through the river so Lucy will be able to see it. A grandiose but sincere gesture of affection! How does Lucy react?

She deeply appreciated such a gesture. Regardless of what shippers try to sell or the credibility of a fandom, a solid emotional chemistry is one of the defining traits of a potent relationship - a connection that can naturally grow into something stronger

Moments like this strengthen a relationship by creating an enviroment in which both characters make each other feel good through the providing of emotional support when needed. All while leaving a mark that moves hearts, creating an emotional attachment that sets the stage for further development. That’s what true chemistry looks like
