NaLu Analysis: Character’s response Vs. Shipper’s standards

Original post: May, 2019

While some NaLu shippers try to make Touka look better than Lucy in ways they don’t even realize, other people prefer to show how NaLu finally got something substantial enough to discuss in a lenghty way. Now, let us see what we got so far:

Most readers could easily see that when Natsu powered up with the help Ignia’s flames, there was a change in his personality; what not everyone realized was Lucy being the first one who noticed.

While the rest of the team was eager to join the fight alongside this monstrously powerful Natsu…

…Lucy was the most affected by Natsu’s change. It’s true we’ll later see how the comedy would later kill most of the potential drama, however the story reveals that this particular event still lingered in Lucy’s mind…

…and yes, comedy once again overtook drama at this point. But, character-wise, Lucy’s response to Natsu stood out from the rest of the team. Both before and after the battle

When we talk about chemistry, one of the most important elements is how the characters involved end up developing a remarkable emotional attachment to their partner/beloved. And how that leads to potential love interests affecting each other.

Other people keep saying that commonalities make other relationships more “natural” than NaLu. Shippers often disregard or misinterpret what chemistry truly is to hype stuff like a pat on the head or reading a map as something worthy of a potent pairing, or something equal to the emotional response featured multiple times in NaLu.

However, when we take away the hype and the general shipping mindset, we can conclude Lucy feels so strong about Natsu, that the change she saw in him produced a remarkable response.

Saving a girl or casually interacting with her doesn’t mean she owes you a relationship, but bonding with her to the point a slight alteration in your behavior has the power to impact her in way that stands out, now that’s evidence there’s something special going on.
