Classification System for Pairings

Original post: September, 2018

Given recent developments within some fandoms as well as the misconceptions wankers try to spread regarding the validity of crack pairings within the story, I decided to bring up once again the standard for canon and potent relationships in literary works.

The base of this post was outlined by @decadus someone I personally admire. He’s allowed to make changes to this system.

* Crack impossible: Pairings that contradict other pairings with well-established canon material, and has zero context that can be most logically interpreted as romantic. They’re heavily lacking in development and/or meaningful moments.

* Crack Possible: Pairings that do not contradict well-established canon material, but have none-the-less zero context between the characters that can be most accurately be defined as romantic. They’re heavily lacking in meaningful moments.

* Impotent Pairings: Pairings that do not have a high chance of developing into canon, but nevertheless had some type of stress in their relationship at some point of the series. Romantic attraction can be a joke or comedic element of the plot. This kind of pairings had become stagnant as the story (and possibly the author as well) doesn’t bother to develop them any further. They’re constantly overshadowed by the following type.

* Potent Pairings: Pairings with a high chance of developing into canon, supported by multiple logical arguments, a high degree of intimacy between characters, and significant/meaningful moments. This kind of pairing has a great deal of development and stress on their relationship.

* Canon Pairings: Exactly what says on the tin. While the pairing does not have to be dating, or married, or whatever, the existence of romantic love must be there and the feelings should be mutual

This system is the standard that this blog follows in the analysis of potent relationships.

Elements such as commonalities or being in the same group are non-factors when the story doesn’t build anything over these particular subjects. While some wankers insist that saving the girl means she owns her savior a relationship, we already know that chemistry doesn’t work like that because an organic relationship relies on consistent bonding and impactful moments.
