I know I should be focusing on my next NaLu (and LuNa/NaLu) posts. But I wanted to give OJ LuNa fans more recognition for their contributions to this fandom, by posting several of their analyses
One of my personal favorites is this post made by Escanor from Orojackson. I hope you guys enjoy it
When Nami told Luffy they must go help Sanji and she’s coming, she said in the english version “you can’t sail this ocean without a navigator"
There’s is a play with the japanese writing system in the original version.
The kanji 航海士 are read as kōkaishi (navigator) but the furigana ( hiragana that’s on top of kanji to show you how to pronounce it) are written わたし (watashi) = I, me when it should be こぅかいし
http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/Navigator
Basically there’s a double meaning, Nami says to Luffy that he can’t cross the seas without a navigator, and that navigator is her, he needs her.
There is no play when Chopper said that he’s coming too and they need a doctor:
English:
Japanese:
医者 = いしゃ = doctor
I’m bringing this because Luffy wants to be freest man in the sea…
The freest man on th sea can go somewhere whenever he wants, as long as he free Luffy will continue his adventures and exploring the wonderful world of One Piece.
Now we got Nami whose dream is to do a map of world based on what she saw with her own eyes by sailing around the whole world, that’s why she studied navigaton to begin.
Luffy will continue to explore the world as long as he lives and Nami wants to sail around the whole world using her navigation skills for her dream, and she considers herself as the navigator of Luffy. It doesn’t mean they will end up together but at least their dreams and life goals are totally compatible. They won’t end together I heard? Maybe, maybe they will still spend more time together than with their husband and wife
Like it was say under the comment of a Usopp Gallery fan art "Take the captain along until the end of the sea! Nami!”. That’s so romantic! ♡
